Now Dabbawala’s Roti Bank Will Deliver Leftover Food To Poor


Roti Bank an initiative by Dabbawalas started to prevent wastage of food in social functions this festive season, they will pick the leftover poor from venues and deliver it to the poor quickly.

Mumbai Jevandabbe Vahatuk Mahamandal is the biggest union of the community in the city, they have tied up with 30 major wedding planners and caterers who will call them and schedule a pick-up.

You can also help poor by dialing +919867221310 and +918652760542, only if you have excess food left after a party. The nearest dabbawalas in your location will collect it from you and distribute it among the poor.

They will deliver the poor in the same speed and efficiency that has made them famous.

Earlier the large quantity of unconsumed food from weddings,parties and other events in Mumbai are thrown in the garbage bin, but now it will be given to poor.

“Why should be the food dumped in the bin when it can be shared with those who cannot afford one proper meal a day?” said the dabbawala union’s spokesperson, Subhash Talekar. “We are known for quickly reaching a location and delivering lunch boxes. We want to use the same skills to help the poor.”
